The Community will finance 15 new places to care for people with mental health problems in Abanilla (05/03/2018)

The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, along with the mayor of Abanilla, Ezequiel Rafael Alonso, visited today the residence of people with mental health problems Santa Ana, where he announced that the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) will hire 15 more places in this center for the care of people with mental illness.

According to him, "through the IMAS, 60 places for people with chronic mental illness in this residence were being subsidized with 1,039,000 euros, with the enormous help it supposes for those affected and their families. to the users the integral attention that can not be carried out in the family environment, either because of lack of it or due to the existence of serious difficulties to be able to be borrowed in it, in a way that represents a fundamental help for the families of the sick".

The counselor highlighted the budgetary effort made by the regional government, with a funding of 1.7 million euros to serve people with disabilities in the municipality.

Violante Tomás referred to the expansion of places in the concerted centers, which has made it possible to improve the quality of life of a large number of people who require special protection.

In two and a half years in the Region, 461 residential care centers, a day center and the promotion of autonomy have been created.

Of these, 224 are for people with intellectual disabilities, 195 for people with chronic mental illness and 42 for users with physical disabilities.

There are currently 4,036 places in the centers for people with disabilities and people with chronic mental illness, of which 587 belong to centers belonging to the Regional Administration and 3,449 correspond to subsidized centers.

Regarding the service of Home Help for dependents, the first mayor of Abanilla has already requested the signing of the collaboration agreement integrated in the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Eastern Region, which make up the municipalities of Santomera, Abanilla, Beniel and Fortuna.
