The Governing Council has approved the granting of aid to the Community of Irrigators 'The Future', Abanilla, for a maximum amount of 4.1 million euros, for the realization of modernization of irrigation projects.

This assistance will be financed in 2013 and 2014 annuities, by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) by 75 percent, while the Community contributes 15 percent and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment October 1 percent.

This investment will act on an irrigable area of ​​1,668 hectares by 10 percent to horticultural crops, by 25 percent to citrus and the remaining 65 percent to greenhouses and other woody crops.

The number of beneficiaries is 1,155 villagers, who farm about 3325 plots.

The Community Irrigation has an approximate area of ​​3,165 hectares in the municipality of Abanilla.
