The motion of IUMA to declare BIC the patron saint festivities of Abanilla, approved unanimously (01/06/2018)

What is intended is that from this City Council proceedings begin so that from the Department of Culture of this City Council, is requested from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, recognition of the festivities of Abanilla as of Cultural Interest (BIC)

The law 4/2007 of March 16, regulates the declaration and its consequent protection of the Assets that make up the Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, whether real estate, furniture or intangible heritage, understanding how these, traditions, culture, acts , ethnography, etc.

IUMA considers that our parties, including the Moors and Christians as well as the pilgrimage of the Holy Cross, meet all the necessary requirements to be declared as an intangible cultural or material asset (BIC), as well as having the protection and promotion of them.

We all know that the patron saint festivities are called "Parade of Moors and Christians in Honor of the Most Holy Cross" because starting from it and taking a tour of what we believe should be protected as a material good, we enter the part that corresponds to the religious festival is to say what corresponds to the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross and here we are:

The Santa Cruz de Abanilla, that beyond the indescribable faith and devotion, is a jewel of immense value and extraordinary beauty worthy of admiration.

We are convinced that after these strokes when they kiss our beloved Holy Cross, they will not close their eyes again because they will want to soak up much more, our spokesperson pointed out.

* The Holy Cross, is a reliquary that has the Lignun Crucis, (estilla del timber where our Lord Jesus Christ died).

* It has four red gems in each of its arms, possibly quartz.

* The central circle, which is where the relic called "the Virile" is, is surrounded by 21 rubies

* It has four enamels or lacquers on the front in each of the arms that represent Biblical scenes of the old testament and that synthesize all the sense of our faith in the Holy Cross ... LIFE, SALVATION AND RESURRECTION.

But it also has four other enamels, difficult to see if you do not look from behind, which represent "The shooting of the Flag in the Plaza de Mahoya", "The Bath of the Cross and the opening of a grenade" "The Holy Cross on the Throne "and" The Ermita de Mahoya ".

* On the inside of the arms it has small pebbles forming a kind of flourish that are "acanthus leaves" or also called "angel wings", because of the shape of its serrated leaves on long vertical spikes.

According to popular belief the acanthus leaf appeased the adversities and difficulties.

From IUMA, we try to see, our beloved Holy Cross, with another look beyond devotion and discover art, to motivate the request that it be declared of cultural interest.

The Holy Cross has a large trousseau to which we must also declare BIC as it is:

* The wonderful CUSTODIAN THRONE of Neo-Gothic style, made with silver from the house of Meneses, a jewel worthy of admiration, for the goldsmith work that it carries.

* THE GALLARDETS that hang from the walls of the Church with the fringe of gold thread, which are worn when the festivities begin.

* THE ROMERIA on May 3, and all its protocol, such as the mass on departure and arrival at the hermitage of Mahoya and the overturning of bells.

* THE FIGURE OF THE PAJE.

Very unique and we believe that unique, is what distinguishes us from other peoples, in some this figure exists as a child, but in Abanilla are children dressed in the baroque or eighteenth century style following the noble tradition, since the church did not allow the sacramental cars were girls, we can remember that they are closely related to the soldiery of the XVI-XVIII century.

* THE FIGURE OF THE CAPTAIN.

In memory of the captains of the thirds of Flanders, who to the sound of the "touch of burden" of the composition "The Attack" of the maestro Miguel Villar, roll the flag with the cross of St. Andrew, which means the ritual of surrender of honors to the Patron Saint.

The captains represent this office in fulfillment of a promise, and to which they accompany their entourage, lieutenants, sergeants, standard bearers and the pages,

There was another figure that was "The armies" dressed as Romans, who were stuck to the throne of the Holy Cross.

Figure that has disappeared after the war, for not being culturally protected.

* The RITUAL "OPEN THE GRENADE", is something very fan and very ours, we have to say that the three pigeons that come out of their interior do not suffer any damage, are introduced into the grenade with great care and a little before it arrives the Holy Cross to Mahoya.

After the ritual, most return to their loft.

As brushstrokes are enough with respect to the Holy Cross, all the work of documentation and contribution of ideas already corresponds to the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross and to the experts who have written about it and everything that the Department of Culture of this city council considers .

On the other hand, we are, with the part of the parties more playful and festive that are "The Moors and Christians."

The oldest reference that is known today of the celebration "of Moors and Christians" in Abanilla, is from 1598, as it appears in a file found in the Royal Academy of the History of Spain, date in which it is already known that festivals of Moors and Christians were celebrated in the village.

Therefore, as in other communities, we must put effort and tenacity so that from the Ministry of Culture they declare it As of Cultural Interest.

It is evident, if it is considered, that from the council of culture of our town hall, will have to contact the Federation of Moors and Christians to invite them to be part of this project and to provide information and historical documentation than all those people who want to collaborate.

We aim, as figures and acts to protect, the Embassy and the Moorish and Christian Queens, because the woman is the protagonist of the festivities.

In most of the towns that celebrate the festivities of Moors and Christians, the role falls on the kings and ambassadors or men.

The achievement of this Declaration would entail, as a direct practical consequence, our inclusion in the inventory of the cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia, thus:

* We would have a promotion of our parties.

* Public recognition.

* The official protection of our heritage.

Probably someone will think that why is so important the PROTECTION OF OUR HERITAGE and that it be included in the inventory of the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community as an Asset of Cultural Interest, because the question has a very simple answer ... and that is through the years have disappeared or true barbarisms have been made in emblematic and historic buildings of our town.

There can always be some undocumented, as bold as ignorance itself, and commit atrocities like those already occurred.

From IUMA, we appeal to fiber and unity, so that the rest of the PSOE and PP political forces will support this motion because it is a good of general interest, protect the legacy inherited, for the admiration of future generations and so that it lasts in the future ... our history, roots and tradition.

He went ahead by UNANIMITY.
