The CHS president visits Abanilla to study emergency works after DANA and meet with the irrigators (20/12/2019)

It will allocate an additional 4 million to condition the watersheds of the basin that can minimize the effects in case of heavy rainfall

The president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Mario Urrea, today visited the town of Abanilla in order to study with the mayor José Antonio Blasco the emergency works to repair the damages caused by the DANA of September, as well as other works to improve the hydraulic capacity of the municipal channels.

Specifically, the Abanilla Canal has been visited, which suffered damages of great consideration with the DANA (cracks, cloth breaks, tubing, as well as its exits the duckbill to the Santomera reservoir and the connection to the Tajo- transfer channel Safe)

The basin agency has invested 46.6 million euros in emergency actions to restore the channels and repair infrastructure, after the cold drop that affected the Segura basin last September.

The CHS has achieved for the next two years an economic amount that will improve the riverbeds of the basin, starting its action by those who, in the opinion of the technicians, pose more risk in case of heavy rainfall, the work consisted of consolidation of margins and cleaning of channels, actions that reduce the possible effects of extreme rains.

The work being carried out by the CHS is to recover the hydraulic capacity of the Segura river, the stabilization of the motes and the adaptation of the channel to its state prior to the unfortunate events.

In the ramblas the hydraulic capacity is recovered and also it is acted in the post-dump channels, which were seriously damaged by the rains, thus especially in the Abanilla ravine as it passes through the town of Benferri.

Likewise, repair works are carried out in the Santomera, Ojós, La Cierva and La Pedrera dams.

It is expected that these interventions will be completed later this year or early next.

In addition, Urrea has taken advantage of the visit to also meet with the irrigation communities of Abanilla, El Porvenir, Santa Cruz and Huerta de Abajo and Sahues, and has listened to the demands of their representatives.
